Fortum Modirum Platforms partnership

Fortum Battery Recycling has established a European-wide logistics network that facilitates the collection, transport, and recycling of battery waste in a safe, sustainable, and cost-effective manner. This network is supported by solution “Customer Portal” that is implemented in co-operation with Modirum Platforms.

Fortum Battery Recycling’s customers include major global car manufacturers along with their extensive network of repair shops and other partners.

These customers benefit from Fortum’s optimized battery recycling services and the reuse of sustainably recycled raw materials.

Targets

Customer Portal offers an efficient digital service channel for lithium-ion battery recycling.

Main objectives were:

• Easy to use for the customer
• Brought to market in 6 months
• Cost optimizations within internal processes

The Solution has been a positive surprise, and the customer feedback has been really promising. This Solution will help us differentiate positively in the market. Customer portal not only optimizes internal processes but also provides a competitive advantage through its tailored customer-oriented services, says IT Director at Fortum Battery Recycling Anssi Airas.

Customer Focus

Customer Portal services are planned to serve unique customer needs and customers own terminology instead of using industry specific products that can be difficult to understand for the end user.

Time-to-Market

Low code extended with custom components solution has worked well for our quite demanding schedule. The first production version was built only in 6 months by a small, agile team. Project started in February and went live in September. Continuous development is ongoing and implemented in short cycles, with new versions released every six weeks.

Digital Service Channel

The Portal is designed as an easy-to-use platform that enhances usability and internal efficiency for customers. The end-to-end process with self-service reduces significantly the workload of the customer support. Customer Portal automates processes and provides a digital solution that saves time for both the customer and internally.

Technologies

The Portal solution utilizes Power Platform / Power Pages and custom components. Integration to ERP systems and data sources are built using modern API’s and reporting is done by embedded Power BI to deliver 24/7 service channels and tailored reporting. Users have access to real-time data, including order tracking and material traceability, all in an efficient interface.
The service is currently available in four languages: English, Finnish, Swedish, and German.

Future Development

Fortum Battery Recycling plans to expand the Portal by offering enhanced customer views, business and material reporting, safety certifications, and more, ensuring that their solutions continue to evolve alongside customer needs.
